Halloween - A Dying Trend?

Does anyone still care about Halloween these days?

In August, I spotted mince pies in the supermarkets. The main ones. I was surprised to see Christmas items out before Halloween had finished. So, is Halloween still relevant today?

Without comparing it too much to other holidays, it’s the one that doesn’t give a day off, indicating how cultural it is. Halloween is the peak autumnal season, with pumpkin spice lattes and crisp walks on colourful leaves. But what do people do on Halloween? Do they still celebrate? Do they dress up? Do they care about the day?

I think part of Halloween’s appeal is the trick-or-treat concept, but it only applies to children. And so as you get older, Halloween sort of becomes redundant. Only children bother to dress up and play games. At university, I have seen Halloween parties with costume competitions and spooky games, but the majority are centred around drinking. It seems that Halloween is either for children or for adults who drink.

I love Halloween. It’s an excuse to watch scary films and gather with friends to spend time together. To drink punch and ghoul-themed items because why not? I feel like we only get a certain number of national events, and if we have the time, we might as well celebrate them. It lets us feel like children and relive scary moments through stories and old costumes found in the back of a wardrobe. I love to see shops selling Halloween drinks and putting up decorations because it feels like others care about the spooky theme too.

I think Halloween may be losing its relevance, but only if we let it. I, for one, will still make an effort to dress up (using what I have, because I won’t waste money on a one-time outfit). Tonight, I have Halloween plans, and tomorrow too, because I want to enjoy the season. It isn’t always about the historic tradition of Halloween, but the nature of gathering with those you love to spend time and create memories. And my justified excuse to rewatch Halloween episodes of popular TV shows!

Happy Halloween!

Although Halloween is not my favourite holiday, it's nice to see everyone sort of have fun with it. I enjoy seeing how celebrities and influences dress up and celebrate it, they are always cool, the one that stands out the most is the Hiedi Klun worm costume 😂. I think perhaps maybe, having time for Halloween might also be the factor for why people don't celebrate it much. However, it's still nice to watch those Halloween special movies and although I don't celebrate it, when people dress up its sort of wholesome in that they are being creative and having fun after a long week of being exhausted.

Thank you for your comment. Time is certainly a factor, if we had the day off, I imagine it would be more popular like Easter and Christmas! For me, I like the individuality? Of course people will be 'spooky' or celebrities, but I enjoy seeing people's take on outfits. I like the roots to childhood with dressing up, watching films, and being with loved ones. It is really nice as an excuse to hang out and watch autumn movies/shows too! 😀
